To cherish the exotic and rare wildlife species, endangered flora and pristine wilderness, one must not miss exploring Hemis National Park. The park is full of alpine vegetation like Veronica, Anemones, Gentian, Lloydiaetc and wild animals like Snow Leopard for which the sanctuary is globally known, Wild Sheep, Goats, Bharal, Dhole, Asiatic ibex, Tibetan wolf, Eurasian brown bear, red fox etc. It has the distinction of being the largest national park in South Asia. It also has the distinction of being among the largest contiguous protected region in India. It is considered to be the only habitat of Shapu or the Ladakhi urial in India. It is also home to small mammals like Himalayan marmot, mountain weasel, and Himalayan mouse hare. And for bird watchers besides Golden Eagle, Lammergeier Vulture and Himalayan Griffon vulture, the park is home to Brown Accentor, Robin Accentor, Tickle’s leaf Warbles, Streaked Rose-finch, Tibetan Snow-finch, Chukar, Fork-tailed Swift, Red-bullied Chough, Himalayan Snow cock and the Fire-fronted Serin. Magnificent mountains and alpine forests of Juniper and Subalpine dry birch as well as the confluence of Indus and Zanskar rivers gesturing as the park’s frontier is an enchanting amusement.
