How to Reach

Leh is one of the two districts of Ladakh and one can reach Leh by Air or by Road. Air India, Spice Jet, Indigo, Vistara and Go Air operate daily flights from New Delhi to Leh and vice versa. Among the above few airlines, some operate from Jammu, Chandigarh and Srinagar also. While one can reach Leh by air in an hour from Delhi, tourists also prefer to enjoy a well-planed road trip to Leh. There are three road access: (1) Srinagar – Leh Highway (434km) which is via Srinagar, Drass Kargil and then Leh. (2) Manali – Leh Highway (473 km) via Manali, Rohtang, Keylong, Baralacha-la, Lachung-la, Taglang-La and Leh. (3) Manali- Leh via Manali, Keylong, Darcha, Zanskar, Nimoo and then to Leh. Srinagar Leh highway remains open for vehicular transport from May to November/December. Manali-Leh from May/ June to September/October every year. Bus services are available from both these termini. Besides, private taxis are also available at both ends.

Leh’s Climate:

The climatic conditions in the whole of Ladakh are mainly dry with little or no rainfall. In Summer temperature rarely exceeds 30 degrees Celsius with a minimum average night temperature of 12 degrees Celsius while in winter, night temperature plunges to minus 30 Degree Celsius and the average temperature in the daytime ranges to minus 25 to minus 10 degrees Celsius.

Accommodation/Tourist Facilities:

Leh offers a variety of accommodation options suitable to almost every pocket and preference in its hotels and guest houses. Many good restaurants are available to cater to the needs of the guests. These restaurants serve Tibetan, Indian, Chinese and Continental dishes. Restaurant/ Dhaba/ local food corners/ eating places are available both in the town area and on the way to tourist places during tourist season.

Acclimatization / Health Advisories:

Ladakh being located at a mean elevation of 8,370ft to 25,400ft from mean sea level and sudden changes in altitude for travelers from Delhi/Mumbai/Chandigarh/Jammu/Srinagar by Air are prone to suffer from altitude sickness. It is advisable for the travelers arriving Leh by Air, to get themselves fully acclimatized, taking complete rest for twodays. Whereas travelers travelling by road are automatically acclimatized with the gradual climbing /gain of altitude.
