Public Health Engineering and Irrigation & Flood Control Leh.

The Public Health Engineering and Irrigation & Flood Control Leh at the operational level is headed by the Chief Engineer PHE/I&FC UT Ladakh at UT/State level and at Leh District level it is headed by Superintending Engineer PHE/&&FC Leh.

At Executing level there are three executing agencies:

1. Executive Engineer PHE Division Leh, the primary function is to ensure the Clean drinkable water, easy accessible to the people of Leh district.

In the year 2019, the division is entrusting to executing the Jal Jeevan Mission to ensure the clear drinkabletap water to every household in rural region of Leh.About 98.85% Rural Household in the district are provided with tap water connections which is the total number of 21469 Household out of 21719 Household. Though the initial tap water coverage at the time of launch of the mission was only 5.74% in the district, within 5 years 20223 Household were provided with functional tap water connections in the district. About 321 Anganwadi Centre and 333 School in rural area of Leh were provided with the tap water connections, 760 women from a minimum of 05 number of women from each village have been trained as field users for water quality monitoring and surveillance at the grass root level.

 The laboratories with 3 sub- division and 1 District level laboratories were developed in the last 5 year, two laboratories have been Chemical NABL accredited. The laboratories test for chemicals of every water source annually and conduct bacteriological testing twice in a year. This has largely improved the health and hygiene of the families, reduced the household duty of fetching water for women and children, and given the community a chance to lead a better life. This mission has proved to be a mission of sustainable development and improved living standards in the region.

2. Executive Engineer I&FC Division Leh, the primary function is to provide the irrigation facilities to the farmers of Leh district. Protecting the lives, land and property by way of construction/ Maintaining of flood protection on Nallah and rivers.

3. Executive Engineer Igo Phey Division Leh,the primary function is to irrigation about 4534Ha of land available on the left side of river Indus from Igo to Phey village and in the year 2022, the division has been entrusted with the Development and operation and Maintenance of Sewerage System of Leh town having a sewer network of 63.00kms and 3.00MLD Sewage Treatment Plant at Agling Leh is being operated and Maintained.
