District Employment & Counselling Centre

The pivotal role of the Employment Department is to sensitize the youth of the district about the employment opportunities for them within and outside the state. The registered unemployed youths with this office gets chance to work in different organization, army and air force as their names and address are provided to them on requisition. The Jammu and Kashmir Self Employment Scheme is itself a big scheme of the department to address unemployment problem.

The Employment Department has recently being rechristened not only literally but also functionally. Today in every district of the state the District Employment Exchange has been converted into District Employment and Counseling Centre. These centers will act as facilitator for the youths to get gainful employment as well as a counseling centre to guide the youth about employment avenues available for them in Private Sector within and outside the state based on their optimum capacity.

The Prime objective of the department cannot be achieved unless there is awareness about different schemes of govt. in the public. It is believed that “if people cannot come to us we will reach out to them”. The department conducts mela and touring in remotest areas of Ladakh region so as to bring awareness amongst the youth about different schemes of Govt.

The foremost work of the District Employment & Counselling Centre is registration of the unemployed youth. The registration card has to be renewed within three years. As many as 3000 number of youth have so far registered themselves with the department.

Unlike, other District Employment and counseling Centers of the state, the district Employment and Counseling Centre of Leh also looks after the LAHDSSRB. The main role of District Recruitment Board is to advertise different vacant posts in various departments and recruit deserving candidates.

The department is situated just behind the Deputy Commissioner Office.
